VA Bootcamp has been around for over five years now. We’ve undergone a lot of challenges and changes, but oh how we’ve grown!

Yet some things never change. My mission to help improve the lives of Filipinos through freelancing education remains the same – all the more now as we continue to face the difficulties brought about by the pandemic.

That’s why I am relentless in telling and teaching people about freelancing, particularly virtual assistance.

If you are not yet part of VA Bootcamp, here’s why you should be:

To our new students, welcome to VA Bootcamp! I see every person who enrolls in our courses as someone whose life can change for the better.

So I’m sharing with you 5 important tips on how you can make your VA Bootcamp course work for you.

Remember to D.R.E.A.M:

1. DECIDE to finish it.

Right from the start, make the decision to finish the course no matter what.

VA Bootcamp courses are self-paced, meaning you can choose to finish it in one to three weeks or one to three months. It’s all up to you. The video lessons are pre-recorded, so you may watch them at your own convenient time.

But we also provide you with a 30-day suggested guide on how to pace the modules in one month.

In order to sustain your perseverance till you finish the course, keep the following in mind:

Remember your biggest WHY.

This statement will never grow old. It’s something that we all need to keep going back to over and over again.

For me, my biggest whys over 10 years ago were: to get out of my corporate job; to be free to travel anytime I want; and to earn more than what I used to while doing what I love.

It became a reality for me through freelancing. That’s why I am passionate about teaching what I know so that you can also experience the time and financial freedom that I have been enjoying.

Now that I have a small precious family of my own, my biggest why obviously has shifted and became even bigger. I want to give the best for my wife and son, to be the best version of myself for them, and to leave a good legacy for them.

My biggest WHY has indeed changed, but the answer remains the same – it’s still FREELANCING.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES await the graduates.

·   Internships – VA Bootcamp graduates are eligible to apply for the different internships that we offer monthly. Many of our interns have found their preferred niche after undergoing hands-on training in different departments.

·   Guided Hustle Challenge – Accelerated and Complete Course graduates are also eligible to apply to this month-long mentorship program where our expert coaches will guide the participants in landing their first online job.

·   Certificate for your Portfolio – the certificate that you get upon completion of a course will boost your portfolio as it positions you as someone knowledgeable.

2. REVIEW the lessons after each module.

Our courses have over 15 hours of video lessons on the average. They are very detailed. So there may be a tendency to forget the lessons or to experience information overload.

It's important to take notes and review them regularly for better retention and understanding. Studies have shown that if you’ve written something by hand, you’ll remember it more.

Passing score for quizzes is 100%. It's not because we are perfectionists, but we are training you to excel and not settle for ‘pwede na.’  You can retake them as many times as you need. But it’s always good to review well before taking the tests.

Yes, you have lifetime access to the courses so you can keep going back to the lessons. But don't take a lifetime to finish them.

3. EXERT effort in doing the assignments.

I often hear concerns about not having enough experience. Well, this is your first step in getting that experience. By simply doing the assignments and giving your best, you are actually doing VA work already.

Your output from the action items will become your portfolio items. So do them well.

If you want to practice further, you can check out job posts on different freelancing platforms and see what clients are looking for. Then try to simulate and practice doing those tasks using the instructions in your assignments as a guide.

Remember that the goal is to learn, not just to complete the task. Learning by doing is the best way to learn.

4. APPLY what you learn.

Use your new learnings right away for yourself (even if you don't have a client yet).

At the end of the course, you would have accomplished so much for yourself.

You can have:

• an organized schedule using google calendar

• Neatly arranged email inbox

• Your own personal website

• Your own blog

• At least 5 social media posts (caption and graphics) that are pre-scheduled

• and many more

Then you can replicate all these for your clients.

You may also offer to do these for friends so you can further extend the application of your learning.

Bottomline: Practice, practice, practice! That’s the only way to get really good at something.

5. MAXIMIZE support from the VAB Community

With over 7,000 members in the Students’ Facebook Group, you are sure to find the help and support that you need.

Our members are not limited to existing students but also coaches, interns, and graduates who choose to stay around and share what they know. The VAB culture of caring and giving back permeates the entire community.

In the group, you will find discussion threads particularly for assignments and other course concerns. You can ask any question that you may have at any time. And you will get helpful answers for sure.

With the network of freelancers in the group, practical advice and doses of inspiration are just a click away. You can even find job opportunities being generously shared by our members.

I cannot overemphasize the fact that “No one can be a lone ranger freelancer.” We all need mentors and peers who can journey with us. Motivation and accountability are necessary ingredients to push us to persevere and succeed.

The VAB community is like a big family. There will always be people cheering you on when you’re just starting; people who will encourage you when you feel like giving up; and people who will genuinely be happy for you and celebrate with you as you reach new heights.

Then, in time, you will be in their shoes too. You will have the opportunity to also GIVE BACK.

VAB students always pay it forward. And that’s what keeps me going – knowing that my desire to help our fellow Filipinos extends into big ripples through all of you.
