  • She and his husband decided to quit her job to take care of their son.
  • She tried a free course from VAbootcamp while she was in their home to have time and take care of her son so she doesn’t get bored.

Q&A Answers

What stories do you have? How did you overcome quitting your last job and decide to work as a Virtual Assistant?

2018 nag resign ako sa work ko para talaga alagaan yung anak ko kasi nung time na yun lagi na lang po sya nasa parents ko or yung yaya po yung kasama nya kaya nag deside kami ng husband ko na mag resign na lang ako so yun po actually yung unang naka discover sa VABootcamp is yung husband ko and since nga po na hindi ako sanay madali talaga ako ma bored sa bahay. Gusto ko talaga nagwowork ako so ayun inenroll nya ako sa VAbootcamp para nga po may mapagkakaabalahan ako kasi yung time na yun mag aaral na din po yung anak ko. Nung una ayaw ko pa kasi medyo mahal kasi 

complete package agad ung inenroll nya para mas matagal daw po kasi nga maiinipin talaga ako so yun po after ko po mag enroll.Meron dun course na supposed to be 1 month po dapat tapusin para di ka ma overwhelm pero ako natapos ko sya ng 1 week kasi nga excited nga ako and wala naman ako ginagawa kaya natapos ko agad sya. 

Ang problem ko naman noon hindi ko alam kung paano ko sya iaapply sa sarili ko so medyo na stress po ako nun kaya sabi ng husband ko sige pahinga ka muna ng ilang months since lagi po ako nakatambay sa tweets and sa group ng VABootcamp student nakikita ko yung mga kaklase ko na meron nang mga clients kaya sabi ko “ako na lang wala ay teka hindi ako papayag na ako lng yung wala pang client sige na nga kailangan mag desisyon kailangan seryosohin yung pag pasok sa freelancing”.

Nag join ako sa Hustle Challenge isa po yun sa naging way na magkaroon ako ng client and that time nag focus po ako noon sa Upwork since meron na akong skills ang problem ko lang is yung interview yun lang po talaga yung pinaka problem ko takot ako sa interview pero pag dating sa skills meron na akong iooffer sa client ko kasi nga before yung nasa office ako work ko yung e-bay store manager po nalaman ko po na pwede po pala dito yun sa freelancing dun po ako nag focus. Wala pa pong 1 week sa dun hustle Challenge nag karoon na agad ako ng isang client and dun sa isang client na yun na hinire nya ako na walang interview nag chat lang kami then the next day hinire nya ako

Nag start na madami na nag iinvite sakin sa Upwork po dahil sa client na yun dumating yung time na 4 yung client ko pero ito po part time lang po sya lahat hindi po ako nag aaccept or nag aapply sa mga full time job po kasi nga yung pag pasok ko sa freelancing dati ang gusto ko lang po talaga magkaroon ako ng extra income. Hindi ko naman akalain na malalagpasan nya yung sahod ko dati sa office samantalang wala pa pong 8 hours yung work ko nun.Kaya nakaipon po ako 2019 at nag start po ako ng online business ko.

Then dumating yung pandemic yung isang client ko kailangan nya mag stop ako din po kailangan ko mag stop sa online business ko kasi yung time na yun kasama ko yung anak ko pag nag dedeliver sa mga courier so para sa safety namin nag stop po ako sabi ko mag fofocus na lang ulit ako sa freelancing. Dito nanaman nag iistart nanaman ako na humanap ng client kasi nga po isa lang po yung client ko at yung isang client na yun part time lang din so sabi ko parang kailan ko pa ng isang client o dalawa. Ang kagandahan nga lang po meron po akong magandang profile sa Upwork ayun po ung pinaka advantage ko noon kasi actually po nung nag stop ako mag accept ng client meron na nag iinvite sakin pero dinidecline ko lang. Kaya nung nag start po inopen ko uli yung Upwork ko yun nag sunod sunod ulit yung invite kahit hindi ako mag apply and dito ko po nakuha yung isang client ko na which is hanggang ngayon client ko po sya.Hinired nya po ako sya po yung nag invite sakin hindi po ako nag apply sa kanya  2019 po ininvite nya ko to apply sa jobpost nya wala din po interview yun.And then ang nakakatuwa po siguro sa loob ng  3 months po yung client na yun 3x to 4x nyang tinaasan yung hourly rate ko so yun po so after 6 months po kinuha nya po akong business partner po tapos naging store manager na po ako dati po kasi product listing yun po yung ano inaapplyan ko so yun po hanggang nagyon 2 years na kami ni client

How do you overcome an interview?

Isa po sa ginagawa ko pag nag aapply yung binabasa ko po talaga bago ako mag send ng proposal binabasa ko ng maayos kung ano yung kailangan ni client ako ba talaga yung karapat dapat dun sa position nya kungkaya ko ba? yun ung una kong tinitignan bago ako mag send ng proposals Actually konti lang po talaga yung na sendan ko karamihan sila po yung nag invite sakin and dun palang po sa pag reply ko dun sa invite nila since sila naman po yung specific mag bigay kung anong kailangan nila and yun sinasagot ko lang po yung mga kailangan nila sinasabi ko na kaya ko ito at may experience ako sa ganitong industry yung ganun po. Kaya po actually nag papa free trial ako gumagawa po ako nang isa o dalwang listing after noon siguro nagustuhan naman po nila yung ginawa ko hinahire nila ako kahit wala nang interview.

What is Product Listing?

Yung product listing po siguro naman familiar kayo sa Shopee alm ko maraming shopee holic rito. Dito naman ikaw mag lilist ng item ni client and ikaw mag reresearch ng product iyon po yung product listing and product research actually po minsan mag kaiba iyong merong client na nag hahanap lang ng product research or product listing. Magkakaiba po kasi yung VA na mag lilist ng item, iba din yung mag mamanage ng store yun ung kagandahan pag marunong ka sa e-bay management marami kang pwedeng pasukan or marami kang pwedeng applyan.

Why are you taking up contracts that do a few start-up companies - is it intentional?

Actually hindi po pag nag apply kasi ako nag aano lang ako sa product research dati yun lang po pero iyong isang client na po na ito yung hanggang ngayon client ko padin sya. Start up pa lang po sya noon siguro after 6 month inofferan niya ko na maging store manager and tinulungan ko siya sa marketing. Kaya sobrang natutuwa siya kasi parang halos 100% na tinaas iyong sales nila nung hinire nya ako kaya minsan parang namomotivate ako na mag trabaho dahil sa ganoong client.

Are you an overpromising person to your client?

Give and take kasi doon sa client ko syempre the more na mas mataas yung position mo mas malaki yung magiging responsibility mo so ang ginawa niya po kasi noon maliban po sa payment ko  binigyan nya po ako ng percentage dun sa profit nila. Pero mag dadagdag ako ng work so parang ganun po give and take po talaga hindi lang puwede ikaw lang yung tataas syempre kailangan mo parin tulungan so client mo na ma achieve yung goal na profit nila. Pero never po ako nag promise sa mga client ko na ganito na wala po hindi po ako nag papromise pero pag yung nag uusap na kami nung isang client ko po. Kasi ngayon siya iyong naging client ko na tinanong niya ako na 'Hey Merideth gusto kong malaman kung ano iyong goal mo sa mga susunod na buwan or taon or ito bang pag pi freelancing ba is ito na ba iyong gusto mo? o may iba kapang gustong gawin' Sabi nya kasi I want to work with you hanggat gusto mo na mag work sakin’ so siya lang po iyong client na iyon na nagsabi sakin na ganoon.

How was your relationship with your client?

Until now client ko parin po sya dipende po sa kinikita namin syempre pag mas malaki yung kita mas malaki iyong percent na nakukuha ko kaya po ginagawa ko yung best ko para matulungan ko yung client ko na kahit papaano ma reach po yung goal namin. And nakakatuwa lang rin po dito sa client ko kahit po iyong pag mag oopen siya ng bagong warehouse tinatanong niya po ako kung kakayanin ba natin na kung mag oopen uli ako ng bagong warehouse. Syempre mag dadagdag tayo ng work it means mamimili uli sya ng mga ibebenta so sabi ko ok lang wala naman problema as long as kaya mong bumili ulit ng mga paninda go lang yun po kasi binigay na rin nya iyong trust niya sakin.

Were you still felt bored on your freelancing journey?

Hanggang ngayon nag eenroll padin ako sa online courses para ma refresh iyong 3 years ako sa freelancing hindi na rin mabilang yung mga courses na tinatake ko since iyon nga po advantage ko rin meroon na rin ako pang enroll sa mga online courses which is dagdag knowledge naman rin po sakin tinatake advantage ko iyong mga promo courses ko.

What kind of tips can you make his/her task much easier?

Yung ginagawa ko kasi ngayon sa client ko ni lilist down ko talaga kung ano iyong mas madali or mas mahirap na product kasi doon sa mas mahirap iyon ang mas inuuna ko. Dahil nga po iyong mas matagal ka mag spent para lalo na sa mga brand kasi yung client ko branded po yong nililist namin or iyong binebenta niya since merong mga brand doon na sobrang hirap hanapin online. Yung kailangan mong gawin i list down mo lahat ng task mo sa client mo and iaalign mo siya kung ano yong mas mahirap kung ano yong mas madali kung saan doon yong task na mas matagal or feeling mo mas mahirap.Yun po unahin niyo the more na pag natapos mo na iyong mas mahirap na task madali mo na lang matatapos iyong ibang task kailangan na magkaroon sila ng ganoon na system lalo na pag marami silang client kailangan talaga ilist down nila yung task nila at iprioritize kung ano yung kailangan i priority.

What is the kind of biggest knowledge that can you share with us? What is your secret sauce?

Actually hindi talaga madali na makahanap ng client kahit na experience ka kasi ako almost 6 months na bago ako nagkaroon ng client kasi kung hindi pa ako sumali sa Huslte Challenge hindi talaga ako magkakaroon ng client kahit natapos ko na yong course. Ang pinaka advice ko is kailangan mag focus ka sa sarili mo kailangan mag desisyon ka kung saan ka ba talaga kong babalik ka ba sa office o pipiliin mo itong freelancing  although sa una talaga mahirap lalo na kung wala kang experience since ngayon po maraming lumalabas na mga free courses katulad sa VABootcamp meron na rin free courses online sa Youtube pwede kayo mag start roon.Kung malakas yong loob nyo doon palang sa free courses na iyon sa free resources na yun magkakaroon na kayo ng client

Kailangan po talaga na mag focus ka kung saan gusto mong industry kunwari gusto maging social media manager e-commers VA kailangan mag desisyon na roon. Kasi sa sobrang dami ng  niches na lumalabas ang hirap pumili at mag iistay ka roon ganoong situation na sa sobrang dami mong gustong subukan hanggang feeling ka na lang or hanggang sa pag iisip ka na lang na "Ano ba talaga yong kukunin ko?". So kailangan you have to decide at mag focus ka doon katulad nga ng ginawa ko dati and daming freelancing website pero nag focus ako sa Upwork doon ko pinaganda yong profile ko lahat ng kailangan kong gawin ginagawa ko talaga para mag karoon ako ng magandang profile sa Upwork so yun yong kailangan nyong gawin. Hindi naman kailangan na sa lahat ng freelancing website ay meron kang account okay lang na kahit sa Upwork at sa Onlinejobs.ph as long as napapaganda mo and nabibigay mo yung best mo sa client.

    1. Hi, Al-j. If you can speak, understand, and execute instructions in English then you can do most jobs.
      However, hindi ibig sabihin nun na hindi mo na i-improve yung English mo. Since yun lang ang second language natin, we all have to make efforts to enhance it.
