Habits are the basis of your success - or maybe your downfall. Yet despite the importance of habits, few people know much about how they work. - Brian Martin

Do you have a morning routine?

Do you have a favorite ritual that keeps you ignited at work?

Have you trained your mind to think, do, or say a particular thing at particular times in order to achieve a particular goal?

Whether you are working in the corporate world, managing your own business, or providing online services as a freelancer, habits are crucial to your success. They will either make or break you, so you need to pay close attention, and understand the habits you have already formed, and the ones you need to develop and work on.

Your habits also affect not only your career but your personal life as well. If there is one skill that you need to invest in as we approach the coming of a new year, it's the ability to break bad habits and form good ones.

You've probably heard of the classic 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. It's an international bestseller originally published 30 years ago but its message is still relevant to us today.

In summary, the 7 habits are:

1. Be Proactive
2. Begin with the End in Mind
3. Put First Things First
4. Think Win-Win
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
6. Synergize
7. Sharpen the Saw

Let's talk about how these habits apply to the life of an online freelancer. Come join the discussion, share stories, ask questions, and have fun chatting and chilling with us this Monday at 5 PM for another exciting episode of FLIP Chat & Chill. If you want to be happier and more successful, you must know and apply the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Freelancers.

  1. For me success is when I have achieved the short terms goals i set for myself and my kids. Not necessarily big acievements but small constant progress is already a success for me.

  2. Yung opening ni Ms Tisha na “being content” is great, I recall, vaguely albeit, when one famous writer was asked when another writer sort of topped him in terms of best seller rankings and the sales of books/works - and thus the latter supposedly being more successful, he mentioned that he has something already that the other writer who was supposed to be more successful - and this is having contentment - he was content already with what he has or have been able to accomplished so far.

  3. Same with what Eunice mentioned on success, I can relate, it would seem that we share the same belief, when she mentioned John Maxwell and relayed what he (John Maxwell) has to say on success.

  4. I can relate sa client ko, usually pg.may gusto akong itanong, sasabihin ko "sir can I ask?" Tapos bigla xa mag.rereply na "noooo" pero joke lang pala yun pero mag.tatanong pa rin ako, kaya kalaunan sa tuwing may.itatanong ako sa kanya, sasabihin nlang niya na " ask, you will ask anyway" 😂 halos everyday happy vibes lang kami ni client and open communication lang talaga, and eventually di mo namamalayn nag.build na pala kayo ng Trust relationship ni client 🙂

  7. Mahar paki highlight:
    1. Sharpen the saw. Don’t work yourself to death. Strive for a sustainable lifestyle that affords you time to recuperate, recharge and be effective in the long-term.
    2. Be proactive. You have a natural need to wield influence on the world around you so don’t spend your time just reacting to external events and circumstances. Take charge and assume responsibility for your life.
    3. Begin with an end in mind. Don’t spend your life working aimlessly, tackling whatever job is at hand.Have a vision for the future and align your actions accordingly to make it into a reality.
    4. Put first things first. To prioritize your work, focus on what’s important, meaning the things that bring you closer to your vision of the future. Don’t get distracted by urgent but unimportant tasks.
    5. Think win-win. When negotiating with other, don’t try to get the biggest slice of the cake, but rather find a division that is acceptable to all parties.
