Carwash boy. Janitor. Tricycle driver. Butcher. Dishwasher.

Lahat na yata pinasok nya.

But everything changed when he stumbled upon freelancing in 1999.

Yup, 1999.

Felix— our JasSuccess guest this Wednesday, March 31 — has been doing freelancing for over 20 years.

He used to make P35,000.

But now, he's able to close a project worth USD3,000.

Woah!

So what's his secret?

What's his process for getting projects?

Di ba sya na-burnout sa freelancing?

Find out on this JSU interview replay with Felix.

Introduction

Felix came from a low-income family, with no motivation with regards to business or freelancing. He started as a carwash boy, janitor, tricycle driver, butcher, and dishwasher.

When he was a janitor, he asked the girl about the software she used for editing pictures at a photo booth, the girl said to him that he will not learn how to use Adobe Photoshop. Felix became motivated instead, and took it as an inspiration that made him decide to study Photoshop.

Notable quotes

  • One at a time. It takes time.
  • Calling cards, invitations, tarpaulin. Kapag nawalan ako ng trabaho, I work as a sales agent sa company na supplier ng tarpaulin.
  • From there, marami pa akong nakilala na network.

Journey to Freelancing

  • Felix came from a low-income family, with no motivation in business and freelancing.
  • He was an undergraduate.
  • He got married at a young age.
  • He worked as a carwash boy, janitor, tricycle driver, butcher, and dishwasher.
  • He learned Adobe Photoshop thru self-learning at the computer shop. Making calling cards, tarpaulin, invitation letters, and printing were his sidelines while working as a janitor.
  •  He saw the VA Bootcamp last December 2020. He had helped many of his co-members in the FLIP community by sharing his knowledge.
  • Felix has now an agency at Upwork and continuously helping other freelancers to learn and earn.

Question and Answer

Ano ang mas profitable, printing or digital graphics like website, etc.?

Do your research, ano ba 'yong market niyan. Mayroon dito madaling kitain, dito mahirap.

How do you manage burnout, parang hindi kayo nakakaramdam niyan?
