Eleazar 'LJ' Jose Journey to Freelancing

Digital Nomad and Online Entrepreneur

  • In 2011, he graduated from High School and entered college and took up Engineering.
  • He is from Davao, Philippines, and went to Manila for college at UP Diliman.
  • College was a struggle for him, and he failed to finish his course. In his very first year in college, he never had good grades and became disinterested. He planned to shift in Business or Accounting course, but he ended up as a dropout.
  • Back in college, he found out he had technical skills, particularly in coding. He became curious about how the technology works, and he was intrigued about how to put color on the screen, shape, and images.
  • After dropping out of college, he started to explore the real world. He applied to a Call center and got hired. He worked in the Call center for four years.
  • While working in the Call center, he became a part-time Web designer/coder. He got an opportunity to work at WordPress.com and earned around 6-figure income. He was only 20 years old at that time. He had lived his life to the fullest #YOLO and spent all that he earned.
  • Realizing that he had to make better decisions in his life was a big turning point. He didn’t want to get stuck in the Call center and he stopped freelancing for a while.
  • He sought out people who could help him. By chance, he found mentors to follow. He found a mentor who helped him to jump-start into freelancing again. He wanted to work online with less typing. He prepared everything. He invested in a premium course, after every shift in the call center, he would spend three to four hours building his portfolio, his website, and sample projects, to make sure he'd look high value.
  • November 2016, while he was still in Upwork, someone sent him an invitation and got the project in building a website and email marketing automation that paid him $1500. That was the beginning of a new era for him. He resigned in the Call center. He wanted to take control of his life and took the risk and change his environment.
  • He went back to Davao in 2017 and set up his work station there. Around January 2017, while doing freelancing tasks for his clients, a man advertising on Facebook about earning 80K a month has caught his attention. After researching and checking out the man's website, and checking out the course he was trying to promote, he bought a course —VABootcamp for his mom, because he wanted her to work from home. But she was very busy with her work. So he just took the course instead, and it was an added knowledge for him, and additional service for his clients, so he got a raise from his clients.
  • He also organized Davao meet up for the WAHP network. He does regular monthly meet-ups.
  • March 2017, he attended three different events and meet-ups in Manila, met a lot of people, influencers, and had a chance to meet Jason Dulay and WFHR community, Jason then was pitching something to the group.
  • Around March, after his Manila trip, he tried to figure out where to focus on because he didn't want to be a VA forever. He tried to assess what he is good at and where he spent most of his time. He figured out he is good at Facebook, so he decided to monetize it. He researched Facebook marketing —on how to promote on Facebook.
  • After much thinking, he decided to enroll in Wave 1 Road To 100K Master Class. Around June or two months before the Master Class ended, he already hit the 100K income and got his ROI 4X.
  • July to September, he continued with his new niche —Facebook Marketing. A lot of people got interested, and he got a lot of referrals. He had to cap the number of clients because he was also working for WFHR and his initial clients.
  • In August, someone contacted him. They formed a placement agency for VAs and creative freelancers. It was a placement agency that helps their networks of friends who are having problems finding high-value clients.
  • In September 2017, he saw a Facebook post from a Canadian client who talked during the April event that he attended. It was an invitation to live and work in Thailand. Without presenting any portfolio, projects, link to a website— nothing, the job was offered to him and he accepted.
  • October 2017, he became a Road to 100k Wave II coach.
  • He was offered to be a part-owner of WFHR, and he accepted it. In January 2018, he started his first day of being a part-owner of the WFHR.

Top 7 Secret Hacks on How to Fast-track Your Freelancing Success This Year.

By Eleazar Jose “LJ”

Mindset Hacks

  • Abundance NOT Scarcity

I had to change my thinking of life, my attitude, the status quo because it wasn’t working for me. I would consider myself someone who didn’t want to be a product of the factory of life, so I didn’t want to be a product of the system, the normal system. That’s why I changed my mindset. From being in the scarcity mindset, in the YOLO mindset, in the trying to look rich but actually broke mindset, I went into the abundance mindset. What does that mean? For the Abundance mindset, you are trying to attract success, you are trying to attract wealth by changing your beliefs in life rather than being in the scarcity mindset.

Example of that was CRAB MENTALITY.

  • Change your Mindset, Change your Income

When you change your mindset or increase your mindset, then you change your income. When you change your mindset, you're not going to be limited anymore in that job that you have or in the current situation that you have right now because you are already in the abundance mindset. So you want more in life because either you have a promise or goal to yourself that you want to achieve. Or you want more in life so that you can help other people. You can do this by attending personal development seminars and events. Do research. If it's a paid event and you have no money, you can contact the organizers and volunteer.

  • Logic NOT Emotion.

An example of this was if you want to stop smoking.

What is the logic behind changing the mindset because you want to stop smoking?
When encountering this type of mindset, you have to make a logical decision not an emotional decision. When I smoke, there is an emotional decision not to stop because of the stress from working in the Call Center. When logic came in, I immediately switched and quit smoking, and I made a promised to my self that I will never return to it. It was very logical— health-wise and money-wise.

  • Your Words Become your reality (Affirmation)

If you believe in this— if you believe in affirmations and the law of attraction, when you keep on attracting good things, you want to say them out loud.

I wanted to earn like 100k per month, So to fulfill this specific goal and promises, I wrote it on a bond paper and stick it on the wall, where I can see it every day, reading it every day in my mind, and saying it out loud, so your words become your reality.

Skills Hacks

Fast-track learning highly-paid skills with these hacks:

  • Invest – You have to invest in something to get something out of it. It's an exchange of value. Make the most of your investment.
  • ROI - Practice, Apply and Execute. If you are going to invest in something, there has to be a return of investment. Otherwise, that's a liability.
  • Repeat – If there's an opportunity to invest in another course or training to widen your skills, then do it and get the ROI again.
  • Unquestionable Proof - Your online portfolio must be rock solid and without a doubt, even if you have no experience.
  • Case Studies - a documentation of what you did, for a specific process, for a specific campaign or task. What was asked of you, what did you do and what were the results. It could be a video recording or just a document. If you don't have clients yet, make yourself as your own client for whatever skills or service you are trying to provide.
  • Google Search - freelancer’s best friend. Search what you don't know, everything is on Google.

Niche Hacks

  • Start asking – start a conversation with a foreign prospect, Confident + Shameless. Keep on asking.
  • Find or create the solution – Research, be creative. Back it up with case studies or samples from others.
  • Follow the money – Success! Rinse and Repeat. Choose the niche, where a lot of people are willing to pay a lot more. Follow the money

Client Hacks

  • Charge high, your public rate has to be higher than average so that the client will notice you and take you seriously.
  • No client, no problem. You are your own client so work for yourself first and create your own personal projects, portfolios, website, facebook page, etc.
  • Go to events, meet new people, talk to them, talk to your seatmate, talk to the speakers, talk to the organizers. Practice, that's how you develop confidence.
  • On your cover letter, mention the names of the influencers you follow when applying. Borrow authority and credibility from the influencers.
  • Follow foreign influencers living in the country. Stalk them like a hawk, but don’t be too obvious.
  • Study the client’s language, tone, speaking style, client's psychology, study how the client thinks. Put yourself in the client’s shoes.

Health Hacks

  • Ask - your family members as to what health conditions and diseases you have.
  • Awareness -Research about that and see if you are at risk or close to.
  • PreventionImmediately use logic to change habits and make better choices.
