• The perks of being a freelancer is that you can move around to any place. Like traveling from one place to another place. I've also tried traveling abroad in Brunei for 14 days working as a freelancer. Sometimes I get to sleep overnight with my friends as long as it has an internet connection I get to work there. This is one thing that I love doing most.
• The things that I like impart to those who are still starting in this kind of business and wanted to attain something. You have to put hard work into it. You also have to be persistent and consistent. Through that, you will really succeed.
• If the client gives you new task for a VA work. You have to put hard work and eagerness to learn from the given task so that you can do it correctly. You have to be consistent in your works and be persistent that you can do the job well.
• As a freelancer, you should also have the consistency. You should have that habit to create a routine that you are consistent every day, every week you are doing your work consistently. That's really the only way to success.

Enteng Nabablit’s Journey to Freelancing

•  He used to be a seminarian but then he changed his career path into a YouTube channel Manager.
• He wanted to be a Priest that’s why right after graduation from high school, he enrolled in a seminary school at Casiako Recoleto seminary.
• He stayed four years in a seminary and took up AB Classical Philosophy and graduated in 2010.
• During his college years, he has basic knowledge in basic photo editing ( i.d’s, magazines and yearbooks) and graphic design in all events. It has developed when he entered freelancing. He has technical knowledge of computer, camera, video.
• After his rest period for two years, he realized that priesthood was not for him and felt like he has many things to discover and excel in other areas aside from priesthood.
• After he decided not to pursue priesthood he worked in a printing press and enhance his skills in free press editing, book editings like designing and layouting for six months.
• He studied programming for one sem.
• He tried t-shirt printing business for six months and until now he is still using it for his business.
• He works as a campus ministry staff for three years.

• At least once a month he works as an offline freelance designer for magazines and yearbook.
• He earned an accreditation from Tesda in visual graphic design NC3 and trainers methodology 1. Eventually became a teacher in a senior high school for their vocational livelihood program in one year.
• He discovered freelancing in May 2016. While he started teaching in senior high school he found a way to learn the freelancing industry like attending webinars, watching some interviews, meet-ups and meeting different mentors.
• In December 2016 he resigned from his regular job which is Media Specialist and focus as a senior high teacher and started freelancing.
• He becomes a YouTube Channel Manager and is now a successful freelancer.

Q&A Highlights

When you started freelancing what was your niche?

 As usual graphic design pero as VA siya na nag specialize ng graphic design. Usually sa mga cover ng course, mga announcement and design sa facebook for posting. Lahat na yon pati pag layout sa libro at mga graphic sa video.

Do you think you will last as a freelancer?

Oo yun talaga na magtatagal ako sa freelancing. Parang, yun na kasi ang pinili ko na masaya ako sa computer tapos I get to travel to different places like out of the country.

What's your favorite niche?

Yung sa YouTube nga yung sa video. Kasi naisip ko dati na marami ng nag gagawa ng graphic design, naisip ko na mag iba pero in line parin siya sa graphic designing but nag level up siya into video. Then the whole YouTube channel yon na i mamanage ko yung thumbnails nun, mga banners nun, video lahat na yon pati sa SEO part nun i tatackle na as channel manager.

Would you recommend this niche to other freelancers?

Yeah, maganda siya simulan dahil ngayon video na yung thing. Parang video na yung naglalaro sa Facebook sa YouTube sa marketing. What more pa kung nandiyan kana nauna ka na sa mga iba at ng switch kana dyan at nasa technical ka tapos interested ka sa mga videos sa mga pictures tapos marunong ka mag edit ng mga posters ganyan. Why not try it learn from it and create your own channel.

What's your funniest memory of being in a seminary?

Siguro ano, schedule ng game period pero ako nasa computer ako naka rubber shoes naka game period attire pero nasa harap ako ng computer. Instead of mag game period ako nag ko computer ako.

How do you make a video to get more views?

Kailangan, yung technique lang sa video is yung interesting talaga. Meron kang target niche para yung audience mo ma aatract ng video mo na engaging sya, attractive and interesting.

Can you share normal ranges for monthly rates?

Ah siguro ano, at least 500$-1000$. Depende na yun sa pag-uusap nyo ng client. Dahil yung rate na yun, meron pang naka list na gagawin mo. Simula sa keyword searching, sa paggawa ng YouTube thumbnails, sa descriptions, sa tagging, sa meta data nya, at yung mga editing kung sayo parin yun. Usually iba yun. Tapos sa pag schedule, sa pag promote sa ibang channels- meaning sa pag promote sa social media, kung ano yung mga gagawin mo. Yun mga pakulo pakulo ganyan. Nasa iyo lahat yan kung paano maging patok yung channel. Kung papano mapapanood, papano madidistribute sa audience mo yung video. Lahat yun ikaw. Tapos yung extra nun magawa ka ng reports after ng ilang months irerecord mo na, ito yung results nun. What if mag try ka ng bago kung ano yung effective sa YouTube channel mo.

What are the good specs for video editing and how many hours will be consumed for video editing?

Yung sa akin kasi, yung specs muna yung I5 tapos 16 GB yung RAM nya then yung video card nya is 4 GB so yun medyo smooth na pero pag matagal na yung computer mo minsan bumabagal na sya. Then may bagong computer ngayon yung gaming laptop so yun yung medyo powerful siya for editing talaga. Since adobe premiere yung gamit ko medyo mabigat siya so kailangan talaga yung mabigat na laptop. Then sa mga hindi hardcore na editor ng video at least yung kaya lang magproduce ng video na hindi sobrang tagal.

Sa editing process ko naman, ngayon kasi mag veventure narin kasi kami sa podcast. Ang ginagawa ko inaayos ko muna ang audio nya, ini enhance ko tapos kinakabit ko sa video, then video tinatanggal ko yung technical errors yung mgsa unnecessary sa video then kinakabit ko yung N screen tapos kinoconvert ko naman ng hand break para maliit lang yung i upload sa YouTube. Kinoconvert ko siya para lumiit yung size sa YouTube. Kasi 6 GB bytes yung the whole interview nagiging 500 or 400 MB na lang siya, mas madali siya pero matagal yung process ngayon umaabot ako sa mga almost one hour yung video. For eample yung video na ito almost one hour so inuulit ko sya from the start tinatanggal ko yung mga unnecessary, nasa four hours ako to five hours kasama na yung pag produce saka pag upload.

How long will it take to learn video editing?

Usually, pag matututo ka ng isang bagay mag-focus ka lang dyan at wala kang ibang gagawin kundi yan lang. Mag basa-basa, manood sa YouTube on how to edit video. Tapos kung anong program yung gusto mo, like how to edit video using balmora. Pagkatapos mong malaman at panoorin yung isa. Mag try kana ng sayo. Then guide parin yung video sa YouTube para pag may nakaligtaan kang process madali mo irewind-rewind lang siya. Then the rest 'yun na 'yon. Basta pag laanan mo lang ng time saka persistent ka rin at gusto mo talaga matuto. Matututuhan mo yan.

Is it easy or hard to learn video editing?

Depende sa interest, kung interesado ka talaga. Mahirap sa una pero madali na rin pag alam mo na. Pero pag hinihila mo ang sarili mo para matuto, parang matagal kang matututo. Ganyan din yan sa sa pag aaral ng pagiging VA kasi, kung madaming distraction at di ka ng fofocus maging VA. Matatagalan talaga, minsan years, minsan months. Yung iba one month lang at meron ding iba minsan weeks lang kasi focus sila dun at yun talaga yung gusto nila kaya nila ginagawa.

What is the one thing that you want people to take home this interview?

Sa mga newbie, sa mga gustong matuto pa ng freelancing. Ang i aadvice ko lang or kahit sa mga old freelancer ngayon, kung gusto mong makamit ang isang bagay, kailangan mo mag put talaga ng hardwork. Hindi lang hardwork kailangan mo rin ng consistency and persistency. Kailangan yun para makamit mo yung success mo. Katulad nung sa YouTube kailangan yung consistency. Kailangan every week meron kang episodes, another release ng video. Para makita ng YouTube na persistent ka sa ginagawa mo. I-propromote pa rin ang channel mo ng YouTube. Kasi nakikita ng YouTube na laging merong bago sayo. Ganon din sa pagiging freelancer or pagiging VA.
