FreeeUp is our recommended freelancer marketplace, especially for newbies. FreeeUp recognizes WFHR courses, so that's a plus for students. In addition, they have very fair and friendly policies to ensure you're treated well as a freelancer.
Upwork is the largest freelance marketplace out there. If you're looking for quantity of clients, this is the place to go. On the downside, there's also a large quantity of competitor freelancers here, so it's a little tough.
Hubstaff is a "free" platform - in the sense that they don't take a percentage of rates and don't charge fees to clients or freelancers. Compared to other platforms, that's very attractive. On the downside, there are less processes in place to ensure a smooth experience.
Freelancer.com is one of the oldest freelance platforms out there. Because of this, they have a large number of clients and freelancers (but not as much as Upwork). Freelancer also has a more complex fee structure with Upwork, so be careful when signing up.
Guru is another freelance platform that has been growing in popularity. Although primarily for technical work, they've also opened up the platform to other niches.
Onlinejobs.ph is a platform specifically for Filipinos freelancers. This also means that your competitors for jobs will also be Filipinos and will be fewer than what you may see on a lot other platforms.
Fiverr is not so much a freelance platform in as much as it's a 'gig' platform. Meaning, the focus is on completing one-time jobs for rates of $5-50. The focus here is less on the freelancer and more on the different tasks you can perform.
As most other freelance platforms are US-based, People Per Hour is UK-based. You'll find a large percentage of UK clients and freelancers here.
Craigslist is not a freelance job platform, but more like an online bulletin board. You'd be looking for jobs based in different locations and applying to job postings accordingly.
PayPal is the largest, oldest, and most reliable online payment processor in the market. Most other services and companies are familiar with PayPal and use it's services in one way or another.
Payoneer is focused on receiving payments from US, UK, EU, Japan, China, Canada and Australian companies. When dealing with a client that isn't familiar with PayPal, you can have them send you money to a 'virtual bank account' with Payoneer.
The oldest and largest phone company in the Philippines, PLDT has the widest coverage of internet in the country. Depending on the area, though, other services may have better reliability.
Globe Telecom is the second largest phone company, offering PLDT stiff competition. With more focus on wireless technologies, they service certain areas that PLDT doesn't.
An up and coming ISP in the Philippines, Converge's services and pricing seem very promising for Filipinos, but they are limited in their coverage area at the moment.
