Freelancing Helps Homeschooling Mom Find Her True Calling - JasSuccess Interview 05/19/2021

Introduction

An inspirational talk of Ms. Kimberly Campado for sharing her success on how Freelancing Helps Homeschooling Mom Finds Her True Calling. She is a Homeschooler of two kids and an OFW wife. A founder of Financially Smart Mama, CEO/Owner of Glamify, Healthify, and Carry Sunstores. Worked in the corporate world for 10 years.  As a Freelancer, she is a Life Coach and a Financial Coach.

Notable Quotes:

  • I know how it feels, wag mawalan ng pag asa, there’s hope, that's what we also teach, after nun we decided na i-homeschool yung aking mga kids, 5 years ago we’ve been homeschool na simula ng sila ay nag-aral and that’s the time na I realized na I need to have financial freedom. I need to be with the kids 24/7.
What I did was, I looked for mentors while working. I have actually a spiritual coach, financial coach, freelancer coach, e-commerce course so nangongolekta ako ng coaches, because I know how important a coach is. Kasi they've been there na so since successful na sila alam ko na may makukuha ako sa kanila.
  • For me para siyang buffet ganyan tapos hahanap ka or kukuha ka ng small bits and pieces ng mga matutunan mo sa ibat ibang coaches, pagsama samahin mo yun and gumawa ka ng sarili mong, pili ka ng sarili mong niche, tapos yun nga pagsamasamahin mo yung natutunan mo sa kanila so that's what I did before I resigned nga.
  • Nag side hustle ako, may 8 to 5 job, nag add pa ako ng second job and on the sides nagbebenta benta ako, tawag dun buy and sell, para ma build ang emergency fund ko because takot nga ako, duwag ako  na pag resign ko wala man lang ako kahit ano. Love your job and build your emergency fund hanggat maari before kayo bumitaw sa 8 to 5 job.
  • Kaya ang nasabi ko na blessing pa rin itong pandemic because this made us realize that love and time with the family is more important than a paycheck.
  • We thank God, because nga we opened our doors sa mga  mentors so we have ecommerce mentor which is ngayon nag hahandle na yung husband ko ng mga stores namen sa ecommerce. Dun na sya nag fofocus and also he's doing  freelancing na rin. Hes applying things, some concept about virtual assistant bootcamp. Yan na itinuturo sa atin so yun na-aaply nya na rin some of it that's why I’m grateful sa community na ito.
  • Since nga as a financial coach, when you tell people or when you teach people everyday kung ano dapat mong gawin how to handle finances how to apply, how to reach, to build the four pillars of wealth. Ako din sa sarili ko nari-remind ako everyday na I should manage my finances very well. Para forever na kaming magkasama or else baka dumating ang time na bumalik sya, mag OFW ulit pag hindi ko siya na-manage ng maayos, so lagi kong sinasabi sa mga tao, ako din natuto sa sarili ko and that’s nice about being a financial coach, actually kasi nga naayos mo ang finances mo kasi yun ang tinuturo mo.
  • Actually that's what we teach, we do the Wealth Builder Plan.
  • I told myself na I’ll do this for one year. Mag sasacrifice ako for one year  and kapalit nito is being with the family,  being with my kids and my husband.
  • Pinaka point ko lang rin is just show them how much you love and care for them kasi nararamdaman naman nila yan eh, na hindi naman ikaw  nagpa plan for them na para masira ang pamilya di ba, ang pinaplano mo naman is good for the family so just express how you love tsaka maging vocal lang talaga.
  • One of my spiritual mentor said that, sa mother talaga, sa wife talaga pinapa daan ni Lord ang wisdom and then gina guide niya ang husband para magawa ng tama and yun yung parang laging nasa isip ko. God is giving me wisdom, I should tell my husband.
  • That's the reason how important the vision board is,  kahit pa sabihin mong focused kang tao, organized kang tao, dadating talaga at dadating ang time na ma out of focus ka because of the struggles, challenges. Yun ang gamit ng vision board to remind you na hey, may goal ka, you want to be successful diba, so you have to do this or else pupulutin ka sa kangkungan, wala kang ma-aachieve.
  • Before anything I just leave this verse. Matthew 19:26 “ With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” So, prayer lang talaga ang katapat nyan. Just asked for it.
  • For those freelancers, yung mga starting pa lang or nasa freelance business na rin, gusto ko lang i-share na we have the capacity to earn. If gusto talaga natin, kaya natin eh. Lalo na mga mothers kaya mo mag earn but make sure to plan. How will you sustain that earning? Plan for your finances wag lang basta mag earn. Alam natin how to protect it. How to manage it properly para maturo din natin sa mga anak natin kung paano mag handle ng finances.

JOURNEY TO FREELANCING

  • She tried to quit her corporate job three times but could not leave until she builds up her Emergency funds which she gets from her side hustle through buy and sell.
  • Her dream to be with the kids 24/7 was fulfilled but it was not enough because her husband is working abroad.
  • Due to the pandemic, It was a blessing in disguise for them because he needed to go back here and they realized that love and time are more important than a paycheck. Freelancing was also introduced to her husband.
  • They embraced reality, they opened their doors to mentors like E-Commerce. Her husband focuses on their store in E-commerce.
  • They have a growing income than the usual 15/30 mindset.
  • As a financial coach, she always reminds herself to practice what she teaches in that way she also learned from it.

Q&A Highlights

Isn’t that torturing yourself to solely save for your Emergency Fund?

No, Because I have a certain goal, If you aim to save up, put a time frame to look forward.

What is your husband's opinion on transitioning to Freelancing?

Actually, Negative. I understand him. Pina intindi ko sa kanya. Inisa isa ko ang advantages and nakita niya yung development ng mga kids as homeschooler. I convinced him kaso matagal.

How are you able to convert your husband to come to freelancing?

He enjoyed naman. Just show how much you care for them. Good for the family.

Compare Journey Personally to your husband

At first nahirapan siya, struggle sa time, so I remind him every time, may sinusunod na schedule so stick to it. Hanggang sa naging routine na niya. I kept  reminding him until he developed his habit.

How did you manage your struggles?

We put God at the center of our relationship. We have a habit to pray together which helps a lot to remove negativity.

How are you able to manage your time, working, and Homeschooling?

I used Google Calendar / Calendly. The morning schedule is for Homeschooling and in the afternoon, it is for work. Though sometimes the schedule is not complied with, it reminds me. Meron kang napipicture out para may naachieve ka for that day.

How do you pamper yourself?

As mothers, we really have to value our time. I have the so-called "mother culture" for me to pamper myself. Relaxation and family time also during Sunday.

What’s your plan for the future?

Continue freelancing, continue advocacy as a financial coach. Nakatutulong to handle finances properly.

  4. Nakaka relate ako jan kasi my husband also is an OFW and sad to say but he's against in my decision of going to freelancing kasi isa lang naman daw ang anak namin no need for me to work. But you know it's not about money always eh, it's more on having a self growth. Yung ma feel mo ba na you're also good not only as a plain housewife and mother but on the other things na mapapakita mo na may skills ka rin pala that you can be proud of.

    1. Let's keep going sa Self growth Ivie Flores, sbi nga ni Sir Phoenx kanina, ipakita nten yung money sa knila Hehehe di tyo tititgil until we earn and prove ourselves.
