Have you heard of the expression "attention span of a goldfish?"

Pop culture suggests that it only lasts for about 9 seconds.

We don't know if that's true or not, but the bad news is, the human attention span keeps getting shorter and shorter.

One study claims that the constant use of technology has reduced our attention span from 12 minutes to 5 minutes. It's primarily caused by technology - the way we consume news and video content that are 10 minutes or less have rewired our brains.

There's even a study that indicates our attention span could be shorter than a goldfish's - 8 seconds! Yup, E-I-G-H-T freaking seconds!

What can we do about this? And how does this impact freelancers?

As online contractors, we do a lot of digital communication. Whether you are sending an email, posting content on social media, writing a blog post, or submitting a proposal, you need to capture the attention of your audience and convince them to read on.

Applying for jobs and sending proposals are a huge part of a freelancer's life, especially if you are just starting out or you don't have long-term clients.
