Hello. Hello, everybody. Good morning, everybody. I am streaming from the work-from-home roadmap page. Let's just see if this is working. We were having some difficulties trying to get this facebook live set up with the software so I'm using another piece of software and just to see if this is broadcasting. So let me just double check. There we are. We are now live. Unfortunately, we've lost a few viewers earlier. I'm sorry, once again. We did have some technical issues. We'll see how we can work them out next time. Okay, great we have five live viewers and we'll just make sure that we have this on the facebook page, on the facebook group.

So today we're going to talk about, am I qualified to work from home or more specifically are you qualified to work from home? And this session will be more of a Q&A session. Where you can ask some questions and I'll be able to answer you guys right here in this facebook live stream. So I did have a slide deck. Unfortunately, it's, let me see if I can show it to you. I do have a slide presentation for you just to talk about this topic here today. So, am I qualified to work from home? And here is my screen. Okay, so I can probably hold it next to me.

Am I qualified to work from home? Let's get this on the facebook group and please feel free to ask questions just comment down below. And if you comment it should show up in my screen and I can answer those questions live. Give me one minute here and okay here we go.

So we have our topic today. Am I qualified to work from home? So there we go. So you can see the screen here all right. And it might be shiny because the sun is that way so it might be a little bit shiny. I do apologize for that. You can see that we have the mountains here behind us. it's, currently in Chiang Mai, Thailand broadcasting live to you here. So just gonna go through this presentation here and here is what we're talking about. So I get this question a lot from people.

Hey, Joe from Mandaluyong. Yes, I'm in Chang Mai so we're a little far from each other and if there are others please comment. I'll be able to see your comments live as well. Okay so just going back here. I get this question a lot, am I qualified to work from home? Both in our facebook group, via email and we get this from people who don't think they're qualified to work from home. So  I'm out here to answer any queries that you may have.

So a lot of you might be asking, I'm not sure if you can read this. What is this whole work from home thing? You might be thinking, I've heard about working from home. I've heard about freelancing but what really is this working from home thing. Some of you may be familiar with this but when you're working from home the whole reason is because companies need help with their business. Companies, these are companies from around the world. Companies from the US, from the UK, from canada, from Australia. I even have some companies from Singapore, up there that's traitor. Companies from Singapore who want help with their business and that's what you'd be helping them with. We'd be helping them with their business even if you don't have experience as Jim, as Kim is asking there. You don't really need experience to start working from home and I'm gonna explain to you why in a little bit. These companies they wanna hire people to help with their business like I said they can hire anybody in the world. Because we're in the Philippines our advantage is that we, our labor is a lot cheaper than if you hire somebody in the United States. For example, their minimum wage is depending on what state is around eight dollars an hour, ten dollars an hour and that's minimum wage. Eight dollars an hour that's 400 pesos an hour for us. That is around 3000 pesos a day which would be almost 70,000 pesos a month. So that would be a lot of money for Filipinos. The best minimum wage for the state so as these companies, most of these companies are small businesses they're starting up. They don't have a lot of a big budget to get started so they want to be able to hire a cheaper a work force.

And Franco, thank you for asking, any particular skills needed. Well, that's a very good question for us to transition to our next slide.  There are different kinds of work from home jobs that you can do. There are so many different kinds. If you think about it, let me just move here, there we go. So you can see my screen better. If you think about it, a business requires a lot of people like if you have any skills that you, Franco, so if you have, if you work in a company before you've probably done something maybe you've done customer service, maybe you've done admin stuff, a lot of us have helped just doing documents and things and these are things that companies need as well.

To Mara, I'm about to answer that in a little bit and same as Ward, because we're going to talk about what kinds of work from home jobs you can do.

  • So the first kind of job you can do is an admin job. Administrative job and these are jobs wherein you help with research. you help with data entry. you help with creating reports, creating Microsoft Word and Excel documents. So if you know how to do this then, you can certainly help companies online do this. As your particular set of skills. Any kind of admin work. And what a lot of companies hire Filipinos to do some very common jobs are things like data entry jobs, wherein you copy information from one data source to another. Or transcription jobs, where you think, you look listen to a YouTube video and type it and even I hire for my for my videos. For my interviews I hire people to transcribe it because I need them in text form.
  • The next kind of work from home job I have here is, are writing jobs and writing jobs are very important now especially with the internet because on the internet you read a lot of blogs, you read a lot of information, you read a lot of reports and companies need the writing done for them. There, a lot of them are too busy to write on their own. So if you can write an article, if you can write a research paper,  you do research on a certain topic. Let's say you look for different solar  panel solutions and you can write a report on that and then that can be a very good. Then you in, where you can offer that service to clients.
  • And Ward you're right. Customer service is a bit saturated but that is our third work from home job. Competition is really tough with customer service especially with a lot of Filipinos you know we have a lot of experience in the call center. Just like me I used to work in a call center and when I started working from home though I didn't do customer service. I did more of admin work when I started. There are a lot of people who are still doing customer service jobs online. The reason is, it's because it's easy for those who are in the BPO transition over. And Filipinos do have the advantage of being, you know, we have very good English and  compared to some other countries who have very good English our rates are a lot lower. However, customer service doesn't just mean calls. It can also mean, it can also refer to email customer service or chat support. So those are different kinds of customer service jobs. So Tamara, do they require a certain tenure ship for a specific task? Nope, these companies most of them don't really require specific tenure ship cause they need to hire somebody. If you're talking more about experience it depends on the company. First, companies want to hire you if you have more experience but as long as you can show companies that you are able to do the job that they require. Then you still have a high chance of getting hired.
  • Our next kind of work from home job our marketing jobs and these are mostly with online marketing jobs with, if you know anything about online marketing, Facebook ads or a search engine optimization, just moving screen here and then you can do a lot of marketing jobs online same with web design and things regarding websites and emails and so on. Okay, there you go. I hope you can see that better.
  • Our next job are design jobs. So these are web design jobs, graphic design jobs. If you can design logos for companies, if you can create flyers for them one of my clients is a dentist and sometimes they require flyers because they give them out up to, you know, prospective patients. So you can also do design jobs. Rivera dela Cruz he was asking, I am registered in Upwork already last, le me just show this here I can show that, I'm registered Upwork already last November as a graphic designer but I am not sending proposals yet as I would like to know more about work from home job that's why I'm very interested in your live webinar. So thank you for joining us thank you for asking that question and we're talking about design jobs right now. So if you can do those, if you can create logos if you can create website for your clients or any kind of flyers and things like that. Do you have that experience? Jay Rivera, do you have that kind of experience? ‘Cause if you do then that it can be very good for working from home and if since you're in Upwork you can look at other graphic designers see what kind of work did. See what kind of work that clients are looking for so you have a good idea and see if you can do that kind of work that they're asking for.

Ward Iglesias is asking,  Ward Iglesias is asking any training avenue you can recommend for graphic design jobs or with marketing jobs? I do offer some trainings for online marketing websites, search engine optimization and social media and so on. So I do have some training courses for that. I'll tell you more about those in a bit but yes we do have those training courses. Okay moving on in the slide here, let me just slide, the next kind of work from home jobs are programming jobs and these are easier to find. These are more in demand. The only problem with programming is that it takes a lot of studying expertise in order for you to be, to become a programmer. Some people take years of study before they can become a programmer. So you have to take that time to study. You're welcome, Ward. You have to take that time to study if you want to become a good programmer and offer your services but if you can become a programmer you can really learn, earn a lot of money. They can charge very high rates. Even, there are even programmers who make 200, 300, 400 thousand pesos a month.

Okay, so these are the most common kinds of work from home jobs. If you have done any kind of work in a business before it would most likely fall under these jobs. And this is not the full list, you can even do things like HR, you can do sales, you can do technical support. There are so many work from home jobs that you can do. Moises is asking if it really a must to have a call center experience for you have a training ground prior to work in home based job. And the answer for that Moises is no. We have a lot of our students in our program, we do have a program of a bootcamp or I train some people who want to start working from home and a lot of them are stay-at-home moms. They've done some admin or secretarial work and nothing related to call center. So no you don't need any call center experience or you don't even need any kind of experience at all as long as you're able to do work and show companies that you can do work.

So who works from home? Who are the people who currently work from home?

  • So we have stay-at-home moms, this is the most common market for working from home because they are moms, they're already at home, they can't work it in an office because they have, you know, the have kids to take care of, they have babies to take care of and so on. So it's very attractive for stay-at-home moms and a lot of the people who are working from home are really those stay-at-home moms.
  • The second people who work from home are those who are disabled. And what I mean by disabled are maybe they're deaf, meaning they can't hear and we even have somebody who's blind. She can't see. She uses a screen reader for it dictates what's on the screen to her. And I have a student who is deaf as well so he can't hear anything but he can see the screen. He can chat with a client. He can just, you know, they can we chat with an employer and he can do things like research work and marketing work for them because it doesn't require him to hear.
  • Next, we have senior citizens. A lot of people who work from home are those who are older those who are senior citizens. Maybe they used to work in an office but now there they just want to stay at home. They're too tired to go to the office. Others are having a hard time you know how it is in the Philippines, we have, our employers don't really like hiring senior citizens. If you're above 50 then you're gonna have a hard time finding a job in the Philippines. And this is very attractive for senior citizens because age does not matter online. The only thing that matters is if you are able to do the work. So if you're able to do the work doesn't matter how old you are. It doesn't matter what gender you are. It doesn't matter what kind of education or experience you have as long as you're able to still do the work. So, senior citizens this is popular with senior citizens as well.
  • Next, we have former OFWs in the Philippines we all hear about people who work in Saudi, people who work in Dubai and so on. And they go abroad to earn in dollars but working from home we can earn in dollars even just in in the sala or the kitchen are my room. I've been able to earn on average around two thousand dollars every month from my clients and that's a lot higher than what I used to earn. I used to work abroad as well. I worked from Singapore. I work in the United States for a little bit but I decided to come back here because I'm still learning in dollars and I can be in the Philippines or wherever I am in the world.Okay just look and just going through a  couple more current OFWs, current OFWs who want to quit their jobs and come back to the Philippines. We do have a couple of those who are interested in becoming freelancers and those who have, I have an interview with somebody who used to be an OFW and she quit her job. She came back to the Philippines and now she's earning more in the Philippines than she used to earn when she was in Dubai.
  • Tired office workers, those who are those office workers who are just tired of being treated like slaves or going to the office spending five hours in traffic every day, you know, how it is in metro manila on EDSA. You could spend so much time just in traffic and plus when it's traffic plus they have to deal with managers who are very unfair. So we have a lot of tired office workers want to work from home.
  • And lastly, we have travelers. Travelers, people like me, I travel the world. I'm able to earn enough to travel the world and still be comfortable and still learn and I can earn from anywhere. It doesn't matter if I am the Philippines, in the United States are right now as I am in Thailand because I just need internet.

I'm just going to read through some questions here. Franco Vega, do you have some training here in Cebu this year. I do all my training online so it doesn't matter where you are because we have students who are OFWs. We have students in Manila and Cebu and Davao, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao so it doesn't matter where you are. If you want to attend one of the trainings I‘ll give you some links later.

I am different, I am the creative designer from different companies for almost a decade but I am you with work from home and Upwork so Rivera, I am not sure if that's your first name or because it says JHil at the end but my suggestion is to learn more about Upwork. I do have a training course just about Upwork how to get Upwork success it's what it's called. We can give you a link to that later cause I can't type right now you can see my hands here so I can't really type.

I'm a PWD, person with disability, transcriptionist but I want to be a writer. Okay that's that's great to hear we have some a person with a disability here and you're currently working from home already and yes you can become a writer for sure. Through yes it's, it is true.

I'm currently a VA for a specific doctor direct with them so far so good can't complain just wondering if it would be logical to ask for a contract basically I do whatever tasks my boss requires from website management so on so forth. You recommend I asked for that though or trust is enough. So that's a pretty complex question. It's a pretty complicated question for us to answer here but my short answer for that you can ask for a contract but it's not very enforceable because of your client is not in the Philippines. So even if you ask for a contract and they break the contract there's nothing you can really do. That's the reality of working from home so that it wouldn't matter too much.

Cel Este, I‘m gonna answer this question later it's in my coming slides and okay Gail. Okay, there we go. So that's your first name at the end I wasn't sure what your first name was.

Okay so just moving on with this presentation. Okay just to show you that anyone can work online and and Liberty I saw that you are here with us here. You mentioned the word true earlier. Liberty became a freelancer, is a freelance writer she's currently 52 I did this interview with our last year she was 51 years old she is currently 52 so she is in that older bracket and you can, in our facebook group you can ask her questions she's very helpful to those that also want to work from home and who are in that older age range. I have a quote here, I‘m just reading very small, it's hard for me to read this. While waiting for employment upgrade and learn new skills because there's huge competition out there if you won succeed at anything you do be persistent, be resourceful, be determined and know what you want to be. You need that people skills as well. So I have an interview with Liberty Baldivino you can check it on on the website we can't play the full interview here. It's around 45 minutes long. I also interviewed Rhea Guintabibib, she's very successful online even though she's blind. She can't see like I mentioned earlier and I'm just gonna read one of her quotes here, ‘the first thing you must know is your passion. You must know what you want to do identify really more what you really want to do, where you're good at from there try to improve yourself and if you're able to do that you can certainly work online and work from home.

So who were working from home isn't for those who give up easily because working from home is difficult. I'm just gonna tell up here right now. It's an adjustment. And also not for those who want easy money. You have to just like when you're working in a company, you have to work hard in order to get promoted. Like if you're working in a call center or in an office you have to work for a while. You have to prove that you can do the job before you get promoted to manager and in working online you have to do similar things. The difference is you're starting at a dollar rate so it is not easy money you have to be able to do good work and for you to earn more you have to learn skills and be able to these good work for clients.

Okay so what do you need to work from home and I see the questions there guys I'm gonna answer the questions in a little bit. I‘m just gonna go through a couple of these more slides before answer the questions.

So what do you need to work from home?

  • You need internet, you need at least 2mbps or at least 3 mbps internet to start working from home. There are other people who are able to do work even if they're just using the pocket Wi-Fi devices or even internet cafes but I highly suggest that you do have two or three mbps connection to start working from home. Okay.
  • The next thing you need is a computer. And as long as the complete so Cel Este had the question here in the PC with windows XP na OS be used or outdated na sya. So the answer to that question is as long as the computer can connect to the internet and you can run Chrome or Internet Explorer or Firefox and you can open up Microsoft Word and Excel then it should be okay. However, if you want to do more advanced or more technical things then you do need a faster computer. You need, I'd say a computer that was purchased within the last five years, that's what I‘d say. So you do need a computer. You can't do this work from your tablet or from your cell phone. If you want to earn online.
  • The third thing you need is determination. As I mentioned earlier this is not easy money. You need to be working hard at this and you need to be able to communicate in English. So if you can understand what I'm saying. You need to, you and your employer need to be able to understand one another. That's very important when it comes to working from home and most of employers speak English. So if you can communicate in English then if you can understand what I'm saying and you can be able to tell employers what you want to communicate to them then that's what you needed and start working from home. Like I said earlier, just like anything new it's not easy. You know when we learn a new skill when we go to college for the first time, when we work in a new office for the first time you have to learn new things, right. It's not dire-diretso na, na you know what to do, na ang galong galong ,o na di ba. You really have to start working hard. Start learning before you can make a lot of money before you can get promoted so just like anything new it's not easy. You have to take those learning steps. Okay so it's not easy money that's it but if you persist with it, if you continue learning if you're determined you can definitely succeed online. I've even, we have even a lot of successful, I've seen a lot of successful freelancers na who didn't even graduate college, who just went to high school but they're able to succeed because it's not necessary for you to graduate college but it's necessary for you to be able to study skills, to learn new skills and be able to apply them and be able to do work for clients. Just like if you'relearning how to create a report in Microsoft Word or Excel or how to do research about solar panels you're going to have to learn how to do those things. Those skills so that you can do them for clients and get paid for them.

I'm gonna go ahead and answer some questions here. Okay just looking through here. Bebey Oliva, I‘ve been working on an e-book and will sell it online with my success rate with that. So that's a very hard question to answer. If you're starting your own business it's a lot riskier then working freelance are working for clients because you're working for yourself. Just like if you if you open up, you know, an internet café it's very risky because you don't know how successful you'll be. You'll have to do marketing, you'll have to do sales, you have to think of manpower. So the same thing when you're selling e-books online you have to do your own marketing, you have to do your own sales, you have to learn how to do facebook, how to do SEO, how to set up websites and so on. But the skills you're learning right now Bebey, Bebe I'm not sure if I'm saying your name right are definitely going to be useful when if you want to work for clients. If you want to work as a freelancer because you know how to write, You know how to, if you have to create a website and you can certainly use that, you how to create an e-book you can certainly use that when if you're working for authors or clients online. Okay, let's see here. Okay, that's got some good to hear, Jhil. You already have your design portfolio so go ahead upload it and show your work off, show what you've been in the past. BingBhong, hi Jason, for three months of freelancing and following your life videos as well as regarding, reading all your tips and techniques, I already have three clients and more interviews to go. Earning not less than 45,000 a month. Thank you Jason, government employees. So I'm very happy to hear that BingBhong I'm, you know,  I'm excited that you, that my tips were able to help you. That my videos and articles were able to help you and your earning at least 45,000 a month, you can earn 50 or even a hundred thousand a month and three months pa lang yon di ba and  45,000  ka na. So how much more if one year ka na, you can definitely earn like a hundred thousand a month. Congratulations BingBhong thank you for sharing.

Yes we do have undergraduate, Moises, don't worry about it. It's not required for you to be successful. Kim Jordan if you go back to the slides earlier like that  I'm gonna if you well, you can't see this here because it's being covered, you can't really read it. But I do have a free course this is for you Kim and people who don't have any experience yet. Who say okay I don't know how to design. I don't know how to do programming. I don't have to create a website, I do have a free course for you. if you go to freevacourse.com that's a free course to help you out. Become a virtual assistant which is the easiest skill to start learning. So I'm gonna include the link as well as you see I can't type my hands are pretty busy right now. I'm a newbie I need to have portfolio/external proof to win the job offer or just tell them that I know the skills.  So Enteng, as much as possible you should be able to show the portfolio or proof even if you just take pictures of, you know, you say okay I know how to create excel reports, charts, pivot tables, macros and so on. Even if you just take a picture of your work then that's okay. That's already good enough to show them that you have the skills. It's better than saying, than just saying that I can do them. You can actually show them pictures of your work. So I do highly suggest that you show them you can still get hired even if you don't show them pictures and a portfolio but you have a higher chance of doing so getting hired if you have a portfolio.

Okay. Harold Jayson are your earnings taxed? So Sorry there's an airplane passing by so your ears, hearing an airplane here we're kind of near the airport. Okay, Harold Jason are your earnings taxed? So when it comes to taxation for freelancers, online workers, you have to compute your own taxes or you can hire somebody else do it. Right now, I know there are a lot of freelancers who are not paying any taxes but you should be paying taxes. It's our obligation as citizens to pay our taxes.

Any tips for me to land my first accounting job online. Just like I told Jhil, I do have a training specifically for that. I'm just going to share a link with it late, with you guys later.

Okay so if you guys have any addition thank you for participating we have 80 people right now. Thank you for participating in this live broadcast. I really appreciate you attending. If you have any additional questions feel free to ask them, I'll answer them on the facebook page. Otherwise, you can head over to freevacourse.com to get a free course on how you can start working from home and for people like Danica, Gil I'm also gonna type in a link for you so that you can see the specific course I'm talking about later. Thanks for attending guys. If everything goes all well, I'll see you next week.
